Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Three quick things.

1. Sick days! The flu test came back negative, but my doctor started me on Tamiflu anyway. I’m pretty out of it. I even had to cancel yesterday’s class.

2. What we would have talked about in yesterday’s class? Jewish Latin American literature. So when I emailed my students to tell them not to come to class, I asked them to watch this Yiddish Book Center interview with Ilan Stavans, the author of all the readings I’d assigned.

3. Oh, and remember that poetry contest I’d entered a couple of weeks ago? Did not win, place, or show. But did enjoy listening to the results announcement.

  1. Erika,
I hope you feel better soon. I met Ilan at the Yiddish Book Center’s Tent on Jewish Children’s Literature a couple of years ago. Very lovely–and talented–person!

I’ve never met him, but I’m wowed by his contributions. Two books this fall (and one book ABOUT him!).

  2. Wow. So because of your illness, Erika, we all got to listen to the interview. What exhuberance and clarity. thank you for sharing.

He is really something, right, Judy? And thanks for the healing wishes. I’m improving!
