Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Three quick updates from my desk.

  1. For a brief shining moment last week, I thought that I might have uncovered at least a couple more presses that might have welcomed my picture-book manuscript. (For those playing along at home, that ms is currently out with several publishers…and I am waiting for their responses.) Alas, I did some research this week and found that none of the presses that seem most aligned with my project will consider unagented submissions. So the (anxious) wait continues here at PW HQ.
  2. I can’t say that I participated fully in Jami Attenberg’s “mini” #1000WordsOfSummer project from August 8-13, but I participated somewhat, for the first time, and I’d say that it did get some of those writing juices flowing. So I’ll take that as a partial win.
  3. It’s time to congratulate some of the practicing writers I know (including two members of my kidlit critique group) on their imminent fall releases. (Cross-post from the My Machberet blog.)

With thanks to Julie Zuckerman for that precious tutorial on how-to-create-a-book-cover-collage! Somehow, I haven’t forgotten everything she taught me!
