Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer
Three quick updates from my desk.
- As promised, the November newsletter did go out to subscribers over the weekend. (If you haven’t caught it yet, you can also find it online. But if you aren’t yet a subscriber, please be sure to sign up—it’s free—so you can get first access to future issues.) You’ll find within 40+ fee-free and paying opportunities; several new subscriber “success stories”; and a fresh featured resource. If you like what you read, please share the newsletter with your writing friends/networks.
- Endless scrolling and a deep discount later, I’ve finally chosen a new desk for my re-painted and re-carpeted home office (Yes, it’s backordered, but I’ve waited this long; I can wait a while longer.) Still to be selected: a new desk chair. Also tk: installation of the floor-to-ceiling-bookshelves-of-my-dreams. For now, I am drafting this post on a computer perched on what was my grandmother’s folding mah-jongg/card table, while I’m sitting on a similarly ancient folding chair, with cartons and cartons (and cartons) of books surrounding me.
- I’ll be reading unpublished work next Monday evening when I join other students from Sara Lippmann’s recent flash fiction workshops for an online reading. Everyone’s invited (but RSVP!).

Erika,
The home office sounds great. I fantasize about four 84″ bookshelves to line one wall of my office and a smaller desk. Some day.
Yes!
Thanks so much for the link to chair choices!! I really can use this info.
I’m glad!
Surrounded by cartons and cartons (and cartons) of books…sounds to me like a good place to be (poetry unintended).
Yes, but in order to prepare my course syllabus for next semester, it would be helpful to have the books on shelves, instead!
Floor to ceiling, wall to wall books shelves sounds awesome. Enjoy the new digs!
I will…eventually!
