Each week (typically Fridays), the Practicing Writing blog offers writing and publishing resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.

  • Commencement season approaches, and MFA graduations are part of that season. In this timely post, veteran author and professor Lee Martin shares wishes for students’ “successes”.
  • “Want to Start an Indie Press? These Publishers Have Some Suggestions“—via Publishers Weekly.
  • Don’t miss Becky Tuch’s latest Lit Mag News update, which features several items you’re unlikely to see elsewhere (as well as news that’s been covered more broadly). Please pay close attention to her commentary regarding the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) and their withdrawal from the upcoming PEN World Voices Festival Indie Lit Fair. As I’ve stated elsewhere, she is right: Questions abound here, and we all deserve answers. If you agree—especially if you’re affiliated with a CLMP member press/journal/organization—please make your voice known, privately or otherwise, to CLMP leadership.
  • And with just a tad of overlap with Lit Mag News, you’ll find still more updates (and other Jewishly-inflected literary info) in the latest post on the My Machberet blog.
  • Believe it or not, by the end of next week, the May issue of The Practicing Writer 2.0 will have gone out to subscribers. Make sure you haven’t missed any of the still-open-for-submissions opportunities listed in the April edition (and in the weekly supplements since then).

Have a good weekend, everyone.
