Finds for Writers

Each week (typically Fridays), the Practicing Writing blog offers writing and publishing resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.
- “Learning how to endure disappointment is part of the J.O.B.” From a Lit Mag News post by Natalie Serber titled “Embrace the Suckitude! On Feeling and Dealing When Submitting Your Writing.”
- “21 Great Writers and Their Great Writing Tips.”
- Posted by Heidi Pitlor: “Once in a blue moon, HPE [Heidi Pitlor Editorial] holds talks about publishing, writing, or both. Our next talk is coming up and it’s a panel called, ‘WHY THE HELL IS IT SO HARD TO GET PUBLISHED RIGHT NOW?”'(Caps for dramatic impact, but we promise to keep it inspiring, informative, and calm.) It’s free, but registration is required.”
- Among the items in this week’s Jewish Literary Links on My Machberet you’ll find some excellent resources grounded in the publishing world.
- We’ll reach mid-September over the weekend–a good moment to ensure that you’ve checked out all of the fee-free-and-paying opportunities in the September newsletter and in the latest Markets and Jobs posts here on Practicing Writing.
Have a good weekend.
Thank you for mentioning my essay! So grateful. And, here’s the link: https://litmagnews.substack.com/p/embrace-the-suckitude-on-feeling?utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&triedRedirect=true
Natalie, I am SO embarrassed. I thought that I had fixed that BEFORE I began amplifying the post. I apologize. The link *should* be correctly embedded now.
No need to be embarrassed! I’m so grateful !
Natalie’s essay really resonated with me! After a long break from writing and submitting, I’ve finally resumed earlier this year, even though in spurts. I’ve had one acceptance and a few close calls but I’m always looking for that next ‘yes’ and until it comes I have to remind myself to enjoy the process! Easier said than done though!
Great to hear from you again, Gargi–wishing you all the best with your return to this crazy practice!
