Toward the end of each week, the My Machberet blog presents a collection of links, drawn primarily from the world of Jewish books and writing.
- New outlet alert! This week Elissa Wald has introduced yet another publication: MAZL (The Magazine for American Zionist Left). Its first offering: a gorgeous essay by Alice Gomstyn.
- And you’ll now find MAZL included within “Where to Read (and Publish) Writing on Jewish Themes,” which I’ve just reviewed and updated. Find it at bit.ly/JewishWriting.
- Open for submissions until June 6: the On One Foot (OOF!) 10-Minute Playwriting Contest, “a global contest for ten-minute plays produced by plays2gather with support from the Jewish Plays Project.” The contest “is part of the Jewish Plays Project and the Berkshire Theater Group’s 2nd Festival of New Jewish Theater, to be held August 28-30, 2025 at the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield, MA. Six selected 10-minute plays will receive cash prizes, and their plays will be produced by the JPP in the Festival.” Check the website for details, including this year’s prompt.
- Now that we’ve passed Memorial Day, it’s definitely time to embark on summer reading. The Jewish Book Council has some suggestions for the upcoming season.
- And icymi earlier this week: I am *still* delighted by the recent launch of the Jewish Literary Foundation’s new video player, replete with enough event recordings to keep you busy for a long, long while.
And, again, updates have continued for both “After October 7: Readings, Recordings, and More” and “Writers, Beware.”
