• From Tim Herrera, some data for freelancers: “At long last, I am thrilled to present the initial results of my ongoing project to collect up-to-date freelance rates for hundreds of publications. These range from tiny, niche blogs and trade magazines to national publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Science, CNN, The Daily Beast, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, National Geographic, Wired, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Guardian, Forbes, The Boston Globe, Travel + Leisure, Time, and literally hundreds more. All of these rates were paid within the last 12 months or so, and I’ll remove outdated rates on a rolling basis.”

• From Kathleen Schmidt, a media guide for authors: “Often, I find myself explaining the whys and hows of media coverage to authors. I don’t blame anyone for feeling out of the loop because the media landscape shifts rapidly, and if it isn’t something to which you pay close attention, you can feel lost. The best way to examine different types of media is to explain how each of them covers authors. Let’s dig in.”
• Of course, there’s a fresh batch of Jewish literary links available for all to peruse over on My Machberet. A highlight there: a Natan Notable Book award for Sarah Hurwitz’s forthcoming As a Jew, which I cannot wait to read.
• And from Margot Singer, a beautiful piece about her new (and also beautiful) book of linked essays, Secret Agent Man, and how the collection fulfills (and doesn’t) her late father’s wish for a book about his life. (A personal note here: Only because I am so fond of Margot and her work am I breaking my own unofficial rule and sending you to a website that I have generally stopped following and linking to, for reasons.)
