- As soon as I learned about the Z3 Bridge Builder Award, I knew that Julie Zuckerman had to be nominated. The award’s goal is to recognize “individuals who are working to bridge divides within the Jewish people—between communities, across ideologies, between the Diaspora and Israel and more.” Julie’s nomination recognizes her incredible work with Literary Modiin (which regular readers of this blog likely recognize from its many mentions here). - Lilith magazine is looking for both paid interns and a new CEO/Editor-in-Chief. Find both listings among this week’s Markets and Jobs for Writers on Practicing Writing.
- As I’m pre-scheduling this post, I’m still trying to absorb this egregious, outrageous (supply your own adjective) story concerning the Toronto International Film Festival. For now, I’ll just take the opportunity to recommend (again!) Amir Tibon’s National Jewish Book Award-winning The Gates of Gaza: A Story of Betrayal, Survival, and Hope in Israel’s Borderlands. [UPDATE (7:00pm Eastern, 8/14): I am seeing news that after considerable public outcry and pressure, the festival has reversed its decision and will screen the film.]
