- I was saddened to read this week (via Shelf Awareness) of the passing of Dan Wickett, a stalwart literary citizen whose incredible championing of other writers I discovered some 20-ish years ago via his Emerging Writers Network creation; I also valued his advocacy for May as Short Story Month.
- “Requiem for a Zine” (and a lot of background about zines more generally), by Hal Niedzviecki (Quillette).
- Some months ago, I was interviewed by a reporter who was researching a certain Big Literary Outlet (one that, once upon a time, I was proud to have cracked as a freelancer; I was interviewed to discuss some criticisms that I’d since developed regarding that outlet). Yesterday, the reporter’s piece was published.
- In the latest Jewish literary links on My Machberet: a new initiative from the Jewish Book Council; a free, virtual Jewish Authors’ Summit coming up; and a whole lot more.
- And a quick reminder that by this time next week the October edition of The Practicing Writer 2.0 will have gone out to subscribers. Be sure that you haven’t missed any of the still-open fee-free and paying/funded opportunities listed in the September issue (which will go behind the paywall once October’s posts!) or in recent weekly supplements.
