• ICYMI: The June edition of The Practicing Writer 2.0 went out to all subscribers last Sunday. As usual, it’s packed with dozens of fee-free and paying/funded competitions and calls for writers of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Check it out, if you haven’t yet.
• If you happen to be reading this early enough on Friday, you can still register for a free Authors Guild session featuring “FBI Advice for Fighting Author Scams,” scheduled for 3pm Eastern time. NB: “This event will not be recorded; a summary will be made available afterward.”
• From Kate McKean: expert reflections on “the actual finding of a literary agent”—and its challenges. (Hat tip: Victoria Strauss.)
• From the team at Works Progress: “We’re going to add something new along with your monthly Works Progress: an essay or two about writing and craft, and maybe some reading recs. It’ll be fun and infrequent. Don’t worry—we’re still doing mostly stories.” The announcement post includes the first writing/craft installment; I’ll be keeping my eye on this new feature.
