Friday Finds for Writers

Treasure ChestWriting-related resources, news, and reflections to read over the weekend.

  • Brian Klems pinpoints “4 Things to Consider When Researching Literary Agents.”
  • Write what you know (and love)? It worked for Lisa Romeo. (And Lisa shares tips in her post on how to make it work for you, too.)
  • Patrick Brown’s slides from BEA on using Goodreads to help readers discover your books. (h/t @JaneFriedman)
  • One of the highlights of the recent American Society of Journalist and Authors (ASJA) conference in New York was A.J. Jacobs’s keynote, and I’m glad that ASJA has made a transcript available (though a video would have been even better!). Titled “On Boldness,” the speech will add a new phrase to your vocabulary: “strategic chutzpah.”
  • And here’s one more text-of-a-talk, this time Debra Gwartney on “A Few Memoir Pitfalls.” (h/t Brevity‘s blog)
  • Have a great weekend, everyone. See you back here on Monday!

My goodness Erika, I’ve lost the morning to reading Lisa, A.J. and Debra! Took away so much from the three pieces that I’m sure I’ll be back to read again over the weekend. Such a wide range of topics and yet each one held a gold nugget for something I am working on or through at the moment. Once again, thanks for some incredible Friday Finds!
