Writing-related resources, news, and reflections to enjoy over the weekend.
New site I’ve added to the blogroll: Beyond Your Blog, “a site that helps bloggers get published on sites beyond their own blogs.” Interviews with editors are just one example of the resources available here.
A memorial service was held this week for James Salter. Mary Norris attended.
News I’ve known for a few months but have kept to myself until this week: “The winner of the second annual $10,000 Christopher Doheny Award is Mike Scalise, for his memoir The Brand New Catastrophe. Mr. Scalise was selected by a panel of five judges: Elliott Holt, Rene Steinke, and the previous winner Michelle Bailat-Jones, along with two representatives from Audible.com.” Congrats again, Mike!
Congrats also to everyone at Rizzoli Bookstore, which re-opened on Monday in its new Manhattan location. I haven’t been there yet, but I hope to drop by soon!
Two Goodreads giveaways happening now (organized by moi as part of my work with Fig Tree Books): one for Ben Nadler’s forthcoming novel The Sea Beach Line (not online yet but coming soon: The Sea Beach Line‘s starred Library Journal review!) and one for a re-issue of Edward Lewis Wallant’s devastating classic, The Pawnbroker, featuring an extraordinary foreword by Dara Horn.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
Thanks so much!
I love your site, Susan!
Beyond Your Blog? What a jewel!

Agreed, Ann-Louise!
