Nearly a year after Patrick Modiano was named Nobel literature laureate, more of his work is available to readers in English. Alexandra Schwartz provides a terrific overview of some highlights, and Modiano’s oeuvre, in The New Yorker.
This week brought the news that Julie Schumacher has won the Thurber Prize for American Humor (for Dear Committee Members: A Novel). Since I have a weakness for smart comic novels, especially those about writers and/or academia, I loved this book, and I’m thrilled that it (and Schumacher) have won this prize. Julie Schumacher, if you’re reading this, congratulations!
