Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer
Nice Surprise #1
I was elated when, last November, Cathryn Hankla accepted my poem “Fighting Words” for The Hollins Critic.
But I had no idea when, exactly, the poem would be published. So it was a nice surprise to arrive home the other day and discover a thick envelope containing a set of contributor copies. (And, yes, a check!)
Nice Surprise #2
Then, I received a wholly unexpected email from another editor informing me that a poem I’d sent long ago (and had frankly assumed had been rejected) is about to be published. As in–tomorrow. (Yes, I’ll share it. Stay tuned.)
Nice Surprise #3
Finally, I ran across this item in one of the e-newsletters I receive. This one wasn’t a total shock–the same instructor has offered the same course before. But there was still something quite unexpected in the encounter with my own name and book as I read through the announcement:
If you happen to be interested in the course, it’s happening in DC, and you can find more details here.
Yay for you and all that good news! Well deserved. (P.S. I’m teaching your “Lucky Day” essay next week.)
Aw, thank you, Lisa!
What an excellent week! Wish I had your get-up-n-go!
Awesome and thanks
Here’s to good surprises!
Indeed!
Congratulations, Erika! It’s heartening to hear good news, especially when you share so much to give others so many opportunities to get their work out there.
Thanks, Nancy. That’s very kind of you!
Congratulations! What a lovely cluster of well-earned surprises!
Thank you!
Such good news – especially that last bit! There’s nothing like seeing teachers use your work with students!
Absolutely!
Erika—Thanks for mentioning my class! I will be teaching at least two of your stories on May 3rd. I also look forward to your emails every day. I’m always so impressed by how much work you do!
Thank you so much!
Congratulations, Erika! How lovely! Makes my day to see this.
So sweet of you, Sarah. Many, many thanks!
Awesome Erika! Congrats!
Thank you so much, Amy.
