Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Three quick updates from my desk.

1. I am overjoyed to report that I have just submitted two pieces for critique in next week’s session of the wonderful Flash Fiction workshop that I’ve mentioned here earlier. The workshop began this week, with a first session devoted to discussing the work of three other writers. I am, of course, a bit anxious about the feedback to come—but mainly, I am just so happy to have written these pieces!

2. A happy surprise: Yesterday brought a commission to write a book review for a magazine that I love. More to share when I can.

3. Also as mentioned earlier: my picture-book manuscript remains under review with three publishers. Only one of these publishers uses Submittable, where the ms is still registering at the lowly “received” level. (I know, I’m not supposed to assume that this means it hasn’t been looked at yet. But it can be so difficult to wait!)

If you can benefit from workshop responses, you might join the Internet Writing Workshop https://www.internetwritingworkshop.org/
    and Zoetrope.com.
    I find them useful.
