Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Three quick things:

1. Coming soon: the July issue of The Practicing Writer newsletter. As usual, it will be filled with news of current calls and competitions that won’t charge you fees to participate and will pay for winning/accepted work. For now, you can still consult the June issue, where you’re likely to find a number of opportunities that are still open.

2. Also coming soon: a Twitter #PoetParty! Join me Sunday evening (July 1) when, hosted by Jeannine Hall Gailey, I’ll talk (more) about summertime poetry submissions. We’ll convene online at 6pm (Pacific), 9pm (Eastern). Bonus: RSVPs are not necessary for this party ;-).

3. Back when I was cultivating an active book-reviewing practice, I always looked forward to Publishers Weekly‘s seasonal “announcements,” where I routinely found a number of forthcoming titles that I wanted to review. Well, we may have just begun summer here north of the equator, but the PW fall announcements are newly available, too. Check ’em out, if you’re so inclined.
