Each week (typically Fridays), the Practicing Writing blog offers writing and publishing resources, news, and reflections to peruse over the weekend.

• Another week, another literary brouhaha/scandale (via The Literary Saloon).
• Over on My Machberet, there’s a fresh set of Jewish literary links, featuring the celebratory (for Hispanic Heritage Month, for instance), and the not-so-celebratory (or, as I encapsulated it, “Et tu, Los Angeles Review of Books?“).
• Remember back in July when I told you that the Association of American Literary Agents (AALA) had revised its Canon of Ethics? This week came an announcement from a well-known agency, Dystel, Goderich & Bourret, that they have “made the difficult decision to resign from membership in the Association of American Literary Agents (AALA). We firmly believe that literary agents need to be held to high ethical standards in their dealings with authors. To us, that means that there must be no conflict of interest in the services that we provide. Unfortunately, the AALA has recently amended its Canon of Ethics to a degree that we cannot support.” I’ll be watching to see if other agencies follow in their footsteps.
• By this time next week the October edition of The Practicing Writer 2.0 will have gone out to all subscribers. But plenty of (the fee-free and paying) opportunities in the September issue remain open for submissions and applications–be sure that you haven’t missed anything that might be a good match for your writing practice.
