Midweek Notes from a Practicing Writer

Three quick updates from my desk.

1. Remember the idea that I alluded to last week, for a new children’s story? Well, I have finally begun writing that story! Or at least, writing bits and pieces that I hope will eventually knit together into a story. I’m realizing that I need to do quite a bit more research to give this story a chance of working (and I really don’t believe that I’m saying that only to put off writing, although it’s entirely possible that I won’t have [m]any further updates about this for a while).

2. The 1000 words that I have so far for the aforementioned story (yes, I know, 1000 words is already at the outer limit for a picture-book; story–I am writing everything I can with the idea of “sculpting” the story later have emerged through one day’s work for Jami Attenberg’s current Mini #1000WordsofSummer project, for which, so far, I am blessedly on track).

3. Caught this tweet yesterday (hat tip: Harshala Chavan) and have emailed to follow up.

I’d love for Quiet Americans to be available as an audiobook. (I’d love for Birthright to be available as an audiobook, too, but I think QA has a better chance of being selected. I happen to know that it works nicely for book clubs!)

an open spiral notebook with a pen resting on a blank page, plus a text label that reads, "Midweek Notes."
