“So it always was and so it will certainly continue wherever people follow the customs. Every year there is Purim, every year we read the Megillah, beat Haman, and hang him. In truth, Haman remains Haman with his own torments, but Jews remain Jews, too. The folk is eternal.”
Simchat Torah is just ending, but at National Public Radio (NPR), they’re at work assembling the next “Hanukkah Lights” broadcast. (It’s a program that I’ve always been fond of, particularly since I contributed a story.)
Through the grapevine, I was encouraged to check in with NPR’s Madeline Clement, who gave me permission to share with my networks this info about what they’re looking for:
“Either fiction or essay is fine. Must be about Hanukkah in some way.”
Length: “Less than 15 minutes read time is ideal).”
Pay Range: “$300/story.”
Stories are welcome from anywhere, but they must be in English.
Reprints welcome if prior publication wasn’t exclusive/author owns rights.
Deadline: ASAP (stories are being considered on a rolling basis) until 10/14.
Please don’t ask me your questions! I’m JTM (just the messenger). Please do contact Ms. Clement with questions/submissions.
